Say No To Nofollows!

In order to fight spam google invented the nofollow tag and then it was supported by others, which is supposed to tell the search engine spiders “not to follow the link”.

See here more about the nofollow failure:

  • nofollow does not prevent comment spam
  • nofollow is confusingly named
  • nofollow harms the connections between web sites
  • nofollow is not useful for humans, just for search engines using PageRank or a similar technique
  • nofollow discriminates legitimate users as spammers

As good as their intentions were, this is definitely not serving the purpose, in fact it may have even trigger more trackback spam, since now spammers need more links to get the same value as they used to get with less links without nofollows and there’re much better things to fight blog spam, like askimet, which btw has already found a few spam comments on my blog…

So I think if people contribute to my blog by adding a comment they deserve a link, a real link without a nofollow!

And as you can see I’ve disabled nofollow on my comments :D
Of course that doesn’t mean you can spam my blog or post some crap just to get a link. Please keep your comments related and positive :)

Now if you’re wondering how to disable nofollow, all you need to do is download this plugin and install it.

Say no to nofollows!

Your favourite forums

That will be the first post about forums here. The site is called Find in Forums, remember? ;)
Later we’ll have here reviews and interviews about the most visited forums and you’ll be able to vote and introduce your forums.

I’m using these:

there’re many more, including a few of my own, but I’m too lazy to write them all here :)

Now lets see what forums do you use? Mention a few of your favourite ones :D

The New Pagerank Update has started! - 29 June 2006

The most exciting event in the webmaster world, that happens every 3-4 months has
just begun!

The proof is here it’s showing a pr5. pr5

See other threads about the update on Digital Point, SEOchat

Most webmasters report about lower pageranks and loss of pr in this update which might be because of mistakes done in a previous update, when getting a high pr was too easy.

I’ve lost two of my pr6 sites, they’re now pr3 and pr5, also lots of other sites were lowered in pagerank. It looks like google is trying to devalue pagerank.

And as usually there’re lots of people who are happy to get their first pagerank ever - so congrats to all the pr newbies :)

Here’re some tools where you can check the pr:

Also see information about toolbar pagerank export here

Other posts about the update:

what’s your new pagerank?

Please digg this

Update: What’s going on? I checked all my sites again and the 9 datacenters that were showing new pr are now back to the previous one before the update

Did google cancel the update, or was it a temporary glitch? Well, we’ll have to wait another day or two and see..

Update2: As Mike Dammann commented there’re still some fluctuations that can be seen here, so the update is slowly processing and we’ll have to wait some more time to see the final results… :D

Update 3, finally!: The long anticipated update happened on July, 13. www.findinforums.com received a pr5, so everyone who took that guess won! I’ll anounce a list of winners later.

Also it looks that most of pr had dropped, Nearly all my sites have either dropped in pr or stayed the way they were… But then again, who cares? :P

New Contest is Up - Win Some Easy Links

Here’s a simple contest.

Lets see how good do you know google and how well are you in SEO, links and pagerank…
The next pr update is supposed to happen in about 10 days (toolbar pagerank updates, or export of pr to toolbar, usually occur every 3-4 months) so all you need to do is to guess what pagerank the homepage will have after it.

Well it’s quite easy actually:

  1. it might get banned (everything gets banned lately, google is broken, so no surprises) - then it’s PR0.
  2. The site has lots of links, so it probably won’t be PR1, PR2 or PR3
  3. but it might be PR4-PR7
  4. it’s not likely to get PR8-PR10 for a new site in just one update, but I wouldn’t mind ;)

.. so why not take a guess, it’s free :)
Post your guess here, and if you win, you get a cool shiny link and you’ll be announced as a winner

Update: go digg this story :D

Update2: the winners:

Most of people guessed right (not me hough :o ), so does that mean google is too predictive..? ;)
